After Antonio Canova (Italian 1757-1822). A 19th century bronze model of a recumbent lion, on an alabaster plinth, 18cm long.

The original pair of lions were sculpted by Canova in 1792 to adorn the tomb of Pope Clement XIII in St. Peter's Rome.

Provenance: From the collection of Sir Jeremy Lever.
