λ A carved ivory goblet

λ A carved ivory goblet, of tapering cylindrical form, with a moulded rim above birds flying in the clouds, above Christ as Orpheus seated on a man playing his lyre taming wild beasts including: a lion and a camel and other birds and animals, above a gadrooned base and a moulded foot, 12.4cm high.

The ivory has been radiocarbon dated by RCD Lockinge, Wantage, Oxon with 68% confidence intervals (1) AD1283 to AD1306, plus: AD1364 to AD1385, 95% confidence intervals, (2) are AD1276 to AD 1321, plus: AD 1349 to AD 1392. A copy of the certificate is included with this lot.
