A 19th century rosewood and brass galleried beer coaster, of waisted form and raised on brass roller castors, possibly colonial, 2.25in (6cm) h, 18in (46cm) l. These coasters of a figure of 8 form were used in servant's halls and taverns, the larger end would accommodate the blackjack, the other the tankards or mugs. The use of a hardwood and lack of beading may suggest colonial manufacture.
