Catalogue Note

This pier mirror was supplied for the Drawing Room at Raith House by George Bullock to hang above a matching console cabinet with a Mona marble top as part of a 'pier-set'. It was listed in the 1895 'Inventory of the Mansion House of Raith, Kircaldy', p.46, by Alexander Dowell as a 'Rosewood and brass inlaid console cabinet, serpentine marble top, with large mirror above'. Robert Ferguson, M.P. for Fife and his new wife, the former Countess of Elgin, employed Bullock to transform their villa in the most fashionable antique taste. The linked foliate brass pattern on this mirror can be found on other items of Bullock furniture, including on the frieze of a pair of cabinets in the collection of the Duke Abercorn at Barons Court.
