Catalogue Note
The composition of the Sleeping Nymph with Satyr is believed to have been first recorded on the 7th April 1584, when Grand Duke Francesco I de Medici gifted his brother, Cardinal Ferdinando de Medici, 'una nuda in atto di dormire'. Giambologna based his reclining nymph on the famous Hellenistic marble of Ariadne in the Vatican.
