Fine Furniture
Tuesday 20th January 2026. Starts at 10:00am
Our January auction presents a broad offering of Fine Furniture and Works of Art, spanning 218 carefully curated lots that exhibit craftsmanship, connoisseurship, and rarity. Leading the highlights is an impressive pair of William IV library globes by Charles Smith & Sons, distinguished examples of 19th-century scientific instrument making.
A strong selection of period oak includes a fine Charles II lignum vitae wassail bowl, alongside a rare 16th-century Italian cassone finely decorated ‘alla certosina’, offering collectors a glimpse into the refined artistry of the Renaissance. Complementing these are notable late 17th-century walnut pieces, each chosen for quality and provenance.
The auction also showcases a strong group of Grand Tour sculpture, featuring two works attributed to the celebrated Italian sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini: a commanding Warwick vase and an elegant model of Dirce.
We are particularly pleased to present “A Connoisseur’s Collection of Caddies”, assembled over the past five decades. This distinguished collection of over thirty tea caddies and chest includes exquisite tortoiseshell examples and a rare marquetry attributed to Mayhew & Ince, representing the pinnacle of 18th-century cabinetmaking.
Bringing the sale to a memorable close are some distinctive offerings: an unusual taxidermy red squirrel tableau attributed to Walter Potter, and two classic Louis Vuitton trunks.
With its breadth, quality, and depth, this auction promises to delight seasoned collectors and new enthusiasts alike.
