Furniture, Works of Art & Clocks

Wednesday 21st October 2020. Starts at 10:00am

The October 21st Furniture, Works of Art & Clocks sale features an eclectic mix of period antiques, collectables and the weird and wonderful. With Halloween just around the corner we have a wonderful pair of Venetian carved wood Devil figures attributed to Francesco Toso (Lot 212: £15,000-25,000) Something not quite as spooky but unusual and primitive is Lot 67: A late Victorian butcher’s shop display diorama, estimate £4,000-6,000 which depicts a butcher’s shop displaying almost a hundred detailed cuts of meats. Following the success of the Exbury House consignment back in August we will feature four more lots from the Rothschild family including a Louis XV ormolu candlestick after a design by Meissonier (lot 183, estimate £2,000-3,000).

From the Far East we are delighted to be offering a fine pair of 18th century Anglo-Chinese huanghuali bureau cabinets (lot 238, £80,000-120,000). These cabinets were probably made for an East Indian Company official and are very similar to a pair we sold back in January for £112,500 (including fees). The sale also includes over forty lots of bronze sculpture from private collections, the highlights are two large equestrian groups by Baron Carlo Marochetti (1805-67). Lot 344 is a reduction of the monument to Emanuele Filiberto, the Duke of Savoia and Lot 345 is a rare example of ‘Le Chevalier Bayard’. Both are estimated at £5,000-8,000.
