the brass month going movement with six turned and finned pillars, with an anchor escapement striking on a bell, with an outside countwheel, the twelve inch brass dial with a silvered chapter ring, with Roman and Arabic numerals, the matted centre with a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, signed 'Sam Watson London', with gilt boys and crown spandrels, the hood with a blind fret carved frieze, above a trunk door with book matched burr veneers

See Britten's 'Old Clocks & Watches and their Makers': Samuel Watson, Coventry and London, horologist, is listed as active between 1649-1710, 'inventor curious piece of clockwork; a clock sold to Charles II, shows the rising and setting of the sun and many other motions.'
