Arctic interest. A 19th century Copeland earthenware dinner plate from the wardroom of H.M.S. Discovery, the printed garter with a polar bear, 'ARCTIC EXPEDITION 1875', the reverse with an impressed mark 'COPELAND' and with printed marks 'DISCOVERY', 10½in (26.3cm) diameter.

This plate was part of a service made by Copeland for the Ward room of H.M.S. Discovery one of two ships used in Sir George Strong Nares failed attempt on the North Pole in 1875.
