EIGHT JAPANESE IMARI DISHES FROM THE COLLECTION OF AUGUSTUS THE STRONG (1670-1733)

EDO PERIOD, LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY

Typically decorated in underglaze blue, gilt and overglaze enamels, each painted with a large bulbous jardinière flanked by two smaller vases, the three vessels containing further sprays of peonies, daisies, and other flowers, with small birds flying above, the rim with large sprays of peonies and two ho-ho birds with long tail feathers, incised to the reverse sides with Dresden inventory marks for the collection of Augustus the Strong of Saxony incised to the reverse sides, four with 'N=345+' and the four others with 'N=92+', each approx. 21.7cm.
