AN UNUSUAL JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE BY KINKOZAN
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
The square-section baluster body decorated with shaped panels enclosing luxuriant gardens, with woven bamboo hedges, birds and butterflies, one side with a toro lantern, on a dense ground of prunus flowers and maple leaves, the shoulder with panels of brocade designs and the neck with a band of key fret, the decoration painted in gold and silver on the café-au-lait ground, the base with a faint mark reading 'Kinko-' for Kinkozan, 12cm.
