A JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE BY KINKOZAN
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
The tall heart-shaped body raised on a flaring foot, the neck applied with scrolling handles, decorated with two large panels enclosing figures engaged in daily activities in a river landscape to one side, the reverse with two chickens in a bamboo grove, on a deep navy-blue ground embellished with ornate patterns of flower sprays, ferns and scrolling tendrils, the sides painted with birds flying over trees by the river bank in gilt, signed and impressed Kinkozan zo underneath, 16.5cm.
