A JAPANESE SILVER BOWL

MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH OR 20TH CENTURY

With a lobed rim, the body decorated with a continuous band of large chrysanthemum flowerheads, the handles modelled as two slender dragons with long whiskers, the base with a stamped jungin silver mark and a three character signature, inscribed 'To Mr. & Mrs Scrimshire from their sincere friend George Noel Fairhurst May 1906', approx. 11cm high, 424g.

George Noel Fairhurst (1881-1964) was the owner and manager of Ceylon Tea Estate, possibly the tea plantation at St Andrews, Sri Lanka.
