MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

One carved as the Seven Gods of Good Fortune on their treasure boat, takarabune, the prow formed as a large dragon with long whiskers trailing to the sides, raised on a base carved as scrolling waves; the other depicting a young boy playing the flute while resting against his ox, a bundle of firewood to the side, signed Masakazu, 6.4cm max. (2)

Provenance: from an English private collection, West Yorkshire, formed in the 1970s and 1980s.
