MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

One a smoking man, reclining and with a small monkey examining his ear, signed Tomochika; another a man and two dogs, holding one over his head and pushing the other one down with his foot; the third a seated sennin with a gourd hanging from the end of his staff, a woven basket beside him; the last carved as Binzuru Rakan with his pet tiger, 6.1cm max. (4)

Provenance: from an English private collection, West Yorkshire, formed in the 1970s and 1980s.
