A JAPANESE YŪRI-KINSAI VASE BY KAZUO NAKATA (B.1949)
HEISEI ERA, 20TH CENTURY
Of bulbous shape with a short rim, decorated with circles of different sizes rendered in silver and gold leaves on the cornflower blue porcelain ground, the base signed Kutani Kazuo, 20cm; together with a tomobako wood box inscribed Yuri ginsai kabin, Kutani Kazuo, with the seal Kazuo. (2)
The yūri-kinsai technique involves cutting silver and gold leaves into patterns and pasting them onto unglazed porcelain, which is then repeatedly fired before the application of a glaze and a final firing.
