The tall rectangular cover decorated with a striking design of leafy vines on golden trellis, the many leaves and tendrils rendered in gold maki-e lacquer and raden mother of pearl inlays on the lustrous black roiro ground; signed to the base with a single character reading Miya, 6cm x 14cm x 16.5cm; in a fitted tomobako wood box inscribed Makie kazaribako tsuta, Miyako saku and sealed Miyako. Miyako Kobayashi is a female artist born in Tokyo, who famously took part in many exhibitions of the Japan Kogei Association
