A TALL JAPANESE KUROGAKI WOOD NETSUKE OF A SENNIN
EDO PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
The gaunt figure depicted standing on one leg, lifting a tama over his shoulder, a small ball loose on the inside; his face contorted and with his rib cage protruding, signed Ryuraku at the back, 9.2cm.
Provenance: from the Mark and Elizabeth Harding Collection, South Africa. Previously in the collection of Raymond and Frances Bushell, illustrated in the auction catalogue for Sotheby's London, Netsuke from the Collection of Raymond and Frances Bushell, 18th November 1999, lot 6.
