EDO PERIOD, 18TH CENTURY
The tall emaciated Immortal turning his head to the side with his mouth agape, holding his long beard with one hand and a gnarled staff in the other; wearing a cloak of mugwort leaves and loose robes opening to reveal his protuberant ribs; some areas lacquered, 14.5cm.
Provenance: from the Mark and Elizabeth Harding Collection, South Africa. With a copy of a receipt from Sarzi-Amadè Limited, London, dated 17th May 1990, purchased for £7,600. By repute, purchased from Spink & Son Ltd.
