A JAPANESE OSAKA SCHOOL KATANA (SWORD)
EDO PERIOD, 17TH CENTURY

The black lacquer saya (scabbard) with a inro-kizami notched surface, the sword furniture elements (menuki, fuchi-kashira, kojiri and tsuba) all decorated with an Un-ryū (cloud dragon) design with traces of gilt; the fuchi signed Narinobu with kao, possibly for Narinobu of the Umetada School, Edo; the tsuba of kawari-mokko-gata shape, with inome (boar’s eye) sukashi (cut-out) design, decorated with swirling clouds patterns; the tang with a mei possibly reading Kawachi no kami, Kunisuke; the blade 74cm.
