TWO JAPANESE LEATHER TOBACCO POUCHES, TABAKO-IRE

EDO/MEIJI PERIOD

One decorated with a ho-ho bird amongst scrolling tendrils, with a metal clasp shaped as a writhing dragon holding a pearl of wisdom, a thick chain linking it to a kagamibuta netsuke with an ivory bowl and a metal lid decorated with a large peony, the other pouch with a coarse undecorated surface, the clasp with a man pulling a rickshaw on which the God of Wealth Ebisu sits, with a lacquer ojime, a stag antler netsuke shaped as a cluster of mushrooms and with a kiseruzutsu (pipecase) in fabric, 19.5cm max. (2)
