A JAPANESE ARITA BLUE AND WHITE SHALLOW BOWL

EDO PERIOD, 17TH CENTURY

With a barbed rim, the interior painted in Kraak style with a central medallion enclosing a scholar stargazing by a plantain tree, encircled by panels with floral sprays, all within a continuous landscape border, the underside similarly painted with floral cartouches, the base with a four character Xuande mark and a paper label for Christie's, 23.3cm.
