A JAPANESE GREEN-GLAZED FIGURE OF FUKUROKUJU

MODERN, 20TH CENTURY

The God of Good Fortune typically depicted with an elongated forehead, wearing lose robes and with his hands neatly tucked in his sleeves, the surface with a mottled olive-green glaze, a seal mark in an oblong reserve at the back, 24.8cm.

Provenance: from the collection of the late Gas Kimishima, wood-fire potter and specialist in the ancient kilns of Japan, purchased in Japan and thence by descent. Gas established his studio in England and built his own anagama kiln in Tring, Hertfordshire.
