Of cylindrical form, the lower half an earthy brown colour and moulded with organic shapes, the upper half
moulded with studs and with a suspension ring in low relief, the front with a prancing horse, some details highlighted in gilt, the base with a four-character Somayaki mark, 10.2cm.
Provenance: from the collection of the late Gas Kimishima, wood-fire potter and specialist in the ancient kilns of Japan, purchased in Japan and thence by descent. Gas established his studio in England and built his own anagama kiln in Tring, Hertfordshire.
