AN IMPRESSIVE JAPANESE BRONZE OKIMONO OF A TIGER AND CROCODILE BY MASAMITSU

MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

The ferocious-looking feline depicted pouncing over the back of the reptile, baring its fangs and with the stripes on its back realistically rendered; both animals with their eyes inlaid in glass; the tiger with a two-character mark on its belly for Masamitsu, all raised on a large wooden gnarled base, 53cm. (3)
