A JAPANESE BOXWOOD PIPE CASE (KISERUZUTSU)

MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

Of senryu-zutsu form, carved as a snake and a frog, the small amphibian ensnared by the reptile's tail, both with their eyes inlaid in brass, 19.7cm.

Provenance: formerly the collection of Virginia Atchley (1911-2013), Los Angeles.
