MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
Both pipes of muso-zutsu form, the first made of rattan vertically woven, decorated with an abstract three-branch black ornament amongst prunus blossoms in gold lacquer, the reverse signed with a single character in a rectangular cartouche; the other decorated in gold, silver and red lacquer hiramaki-e on the black roiro ground with a Kabuki actor with a red wig, 23.5cm and 23cm respectively.
