A JAPANESE THREE-CASE GOLD, SILVER AND BLACK LACQUER INRO BY YOYUSAI HARA (1768-1845)

EDO PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

Decorated with a continuous design of many chidori (plovers) in flight above pines, some birds in gilt and others a chocolate-brown colour, signed to the base Gyonen nanaju-san o, Yoyusai (Yoyusai, an old man of seventy-three), with a white glass ojime, the inro 6.1cm.

Provenance: an English private collection, Somerset, purchased in Japan.
