TWO LARGE JAPANESE IMARI TUREENS AND COVERS
EDO PERIOD, C.1700
Both typically decorated in underglaze blue, gilt, red, green, yellow and black enamels, with alternating panels enclosing flowering sprays of chrysanthemum, prunus, peony, and other flowers, between bands of maple, paulownia leaves, and lappets, the covers with similar decoration and both with a sixteen-petal chrysanthemum flowerhead to the knop, 32.5cm and 33cm respectively.
