A JAPANESE SATSUMA DISH BY KINSUI FOR THE KINKOZAN WORKSHOP
MEIJI PERIOD, C.1900
Decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt, with a central foliate panel enclosing travellers by a pavilion on the shores of a river; the figures wearing ornate garments, one beauty and her companion with wide-brimmed hats; another traveller a samurawashi (monkey trainer) with his pet by his side, with a flowering prunus tree behind them, all reserved on a deep blue ground embellished with many flower sprays in gilt, a red seal mark for Kinsui; the reverse with a stamped mark for Kinkozan zo enclosed in a gilt rectangle, and a paper label for Kinkozan Kyoto n.5414, 20.1cm.
