Possibly ko-sometsuke pieces made for the Japanese market, each painted to the well with a small bird in flight above stylised bamboo, with the moon and scrolling clouds to the sides; each painted to the reverse with the Three Friends of Winter, prunus, bamboo and pine; all with a mark reading Da Ming Chenghua nian zhi to the reverse, all approx. 13.9cm. (5)
Provenance: from the collection of the late Gas Kimishima, wood-fire potter and specialist in the ancient kilns of Japan, purchased in Japan and thence by descent. Gas established his studio in England and built his own anagama kiln in Tring, Hertfordshire.
