A SET OF FIVE JAPANESE BLUE AND WHITE DISHES
MEIJI OR LATER, 20TH CENTURY
Each dish moulded as a makimono, the horizontal scroll opening to reveal a design of six cranes resting amongst tall grasses by a stream, all painted to the reverse with stylised mountains, constellations, clouds and dragons, all approx. 18.7cm. (5)
Provenance: from the collection of the late Gas Kimishima, wood-fire potter and specialist in the ancient kilns of Japan, purchased in Japan and thence by descent. Gas established his studio in England and built his own anagama kiln in Tring, Hertfordshire.
