TWO JAPANESE VASES
TWO JAPANESE VASES
MEIJI OR LATER, 19TH OR 20TH CENTURY
The first an example of Iga ware, with a tall cylindrical body and a cream-coloured glaze dripping from the rim on the light orange ground; the other a bottle with an ovoid shape and a tall everted neck, 25.7cm and 31cm respectively. (2)
Provenance: from the collection of the late Gas Kimishima, wood-fire potter and specialist in the ancient kilns of Japan, purchased in Japan and thence by descent. Gas established his studio in England and built his own anagama kiln in Tring, Hertfordshire.
