EDO OR MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

Depicting a large rat and its two young, the parent and one of the pups gnawing on a spray of millet, the other clambering on to its parent's back, realistically carved and with the eyes inlaid, signed Okatomo in a rectangular reserve underneath, 3.9cm.

Provenance: from the collection of a lady of title, and thence by descent.
