A JAPANESE ARITA SQUARE FOOTED DISH
EDO PERIOD, 17TH CENTURY
The well decorated with a low stand supporting plants and scholar's rocks; the tall rim with a brown edge; two diagonal bands to the reverse, one side with a flowering branch of prunus rendered in the ronuki (wax resist) technique, and the other with sayagata patterns; the base with a fuku mark; together with a tomobako box, 11.2cm.
