A TALL JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE BY THE KINKOZAN WORKSHOP
MEIJI ERA, 19TH/20TH CENTURY
The hexagonal body raised on a short circular foot, with a waisted neck and a lipped rim; richly decorated with two large panels, one enclosing two beauties and a small girl in a luxuriant garden, observing the large pink peonies before them, with a tall magnolia in bloom behind them; the reverse with two chickens standing beside a tall flowering prunus tree and other flowers; all reserved on a midnight-blue ground embellished with gilt decoration of mon, birds and flowers, with borders of chevrons, lappets and other diaper patterns; the base marked Kinkozan zo, 31cm.
