THREE JAPANESE TSUBA
EDO AND LATER, 18TH CENTURY AND LATER

Two of mokkō-gata (quadrilobed) form and made of iron, one Mito-type tsuba decorated with a large tiger emerging from clouds, inlaid in brass takazogan; the other with a chicken and flowers inlaid in gold and silver; the third tsuba of oval shape and made of copper, decorated with a gnarly flowering prunus tree, an illegible signature; one with a box, 8.4cm max. (4)

Provenance: from an English private collection, Devon. The tiger tsuba purchased from Bonhams London, Fine Japanese Works of Art from the Edward Wrangham Collection, 18 June-9 July 2018, lot 14 (part).
