A JAPANESE LACQUERED HASAMI BAKO (TRAVELLING CHEST)
EDO PERIOD, 18TH CENTURY
Of typical rectangular shape, decorated with clematis and scrolling tendrils, the sides with large mitsuba aoi mon (triple hollyhock family crests), all rendered in gold lacquer on the black ground, with metal mounts decorated with further floral motifs, 32.5cm x 58cm x 41cm. (2)
The mitsuba aoi mon family crest was notably used by the Tokugawa clan.
