A PAIR OF JAPANESE BRONZE PRICKET CANDLESTICKS
MEIJI ERA, 19TH/20TH CENTURY

Both raised on three monster-head feet and with elephant-head handles, each with panels containing birds on both sides, both signed underneath, possibly Nakao Shōshin zō, 22cm and 22.8cm. (2)

Provenance: from the Estate of a Collector, Heath House, Hampshire, and thence by descent. By repute, acquired in Asia at the turn of the 19th century.
