Yushi Ikeda was a Japanese artist based in Osaka, celebrated for his primitive and high-energy wood carvings, sculptures, and paintings that drew inspiration from African art. Operating outside the mainstream art establishment, he spent decades working from a legendary attic studio in the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts, leaving behind a legacy as a unique "maverick" of modern Japanese art.
