A JAPANESE BRONZE INCENSE BURNER, KORO
MEIJI 1868-1912
Cast as a crouching egret, the lid with three apertures, together with two rectangular iron and mixed metal panels applied with sprays of flowers and butterflies, and a small metal fitting, possibly a menuki, modelled as a rat climbing upon a large daikon, all unsigned, 17.5cm max. (5)
Provenance: from the collection of Ernst Michel (d.1949), an architect working in Germany in the first half of the 20th c. and involved with Walter Gropius and the Bauhaus Movement.
