A PAIR OF JAPANESE ARITA BLUE AND WHITE DISHES
18TH CENTURY
Both with scalloped edges and decorated with a central panel enclosing a small bird perched on a flowering branch of chrysanthemum, with rockwork beneath it, the cavetto with a continuous band of peonies, prunus and other flowers, both raised on a short foot, the base with later inscriptions in black ink, 21.7cm. (2)
Provenance: from a German private collection acquired in Asia between 1955 and 1965 and thence by descent.
