A JAPANESE KAKIEMON VASE AND COVER

Originally a sake bottle, tokkuri, decorated in cobalt, yellow, black, cyan and orange enamels, with a continuous design of a figure hugging a large jar, holding a small sake cup in his right hand and merrily drinking the contents, with another jar in front of him, possibly a variation on the subject of Hob in the well (before the fall), with flowering branches growing from craggy rocks to the side and reverse, the lid with prunus flowers and four apertures, the vase richly decorated with ormolu mounts with leafy garlands and topped with further leaves and grapes, the ormolu base inscribed Escaliers de Cristal Paris, 26cm.
