A JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE
MEIJI ERA (1868-1912)
Signed, 15.5cm.
The gourd-shaped body with an elongated neck, richly decorated with two shaped panels enclosing many boys at play to one side, and scholars to the reverse; on a rich ground of brocade patterns, still-lives with flowers, and a multitude of auspicious objects around the neck, including Daikoku's mallet. The side bears a signature partially concealed behind a branch of prunus, and the base also features remnants of a signature, with the same first character.
