VIEWS OF LONDON
C.1910

Two Japanese woodblock prints; 24.5cm x 35cm and 25.3cm x 35.5cm. (2)

The two prints with details in gofun, the first entitled 'Putney Bridge from the South'; the other 'Green Park, Buckingham Palace beyond', both signed in Japanese and inscribed 'Yoshio Markino' in pencil.

From 1897 to 1942, Yoshio Markino (also known as Makino) resided in the UK, where he gained recognition for his atmospheric depictions of London's fog-laden streets in sketches and watercolours. His work garnered commissions from prominent publications and received critical acclaim, establishing him as a respected figure within art and literary circles. Markino also authored several autobiographies and was part of a group of Japanese artists working in London during this period.
