TWO JAPANESE LACQUERED KISERUZUTSU (PIPE CASE)

MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

Both pipe cases of muso-zutsu form, the first made of woven rattan and decorated with lotus flowers and leaves in gold, red and black takamaki-e lacquer, signed to the back; the other in red negoro-style lacquer with two large persimmons on a branch, the fruits in red, gold and black takamaki-e, with a metal ring and loop to the rim, signed in a rectangular reserve to the back, 21.6cm and 20.5cm.
