THREE JAPANESE WOOD NETSUKE

MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

The first carved as a tiger scratching its ear, its pupils inlaid and its hair finely rendered, signed Masanobu; the second depicting another tiger rolled up in a ball and licking between its legs, its eyes in gold lacquer, signed Kokei; the third depicting two puppies at play, their eyes in dark horn, signed Kikugawa, 4.3cm max. (3)

Provenance: from the collection of a lady of title, and thence by descent. See Japanese Works of Art, 1st July 2020, for the first part of this private collection of netsuke sold in these rooms.
