A Neoclassical sard intaglio brooch, the oval-shaped sard intaglio depicting 'Hercules rescuing Hesione from the monster', with a pseudo-signature (pretending to be the work of the ancient engraver Apollonides), in ornate gold frame, 6.7cm wide

Provenance: From the collection of Prince Stanislas Poniatowski (1754-1833); supposedly offered for auction at Christie's (london), 29 April - 21 May 1839, lot 489, withdrawn from the sale, purchased by John Tyrrell (35 Craven Street - London).
