A rare Louis XVIII 'Décoration du Lys' glass desk seal
A rare Louis XVIII 'Décoration du Lys' glass desk seal, circa 1814, of faceted baluster form, the base engraved with the Decoration of the Lily ('Décoration du Lys') and an initial, measuring 9 x 3.5 x 3.1cm
Likely manufactured by the Royal glass makers in Le Creusot, the insignia on this seal is the 'Decoration of the Lily', an order created in 1814 by the newly-restored Bourbon king Louis XVIII to reward members of the National Guard for their service and fidelity to the French crown.
