An enamelled gold stud by H. G. Murphy
An enamelled gold stud by H. G. Murphy, the circular stud depicting the emblem of the Pahlavi dynasty, the polychrome enamel decoration depicting the Persian (Iranian) lion holding a sword below a sun and surrounded by a wreath, surmounted with a Pahlavi crown, signed HGM, with Falcon mark, stamped 18ct, 26mm high
In the 19th century, during the Qajar dynasty, the Persian lion and sun became an Iranian national emblem. Fat'h Ali Shah changed the design by adding the Qajar crown, which represented the monarchy. The crown was later changed to that of the Pahlavi dynasty when they took over from the Qajars. The motif was used on the Iranian national flag until 1979.
